Since May 22nd, the EACB has proudly become a supporting institution of the United Nations Environment Programme - Financial Initiative (UNEP-FI).
Mr. Herve’ Guider, EACB General Manager commented : "The EACB is very proud of having become officially a Supporting Institution of the UNEP Finance Initiative. We look forward to this new collaboration and forthcoming important work on sustainable finance. Co-operative banks consider that they are part of society and aim to contribute to the success of that society since their origins. With 20% market share, 4.050 banks, 210 million clients and 79 million members, co-operative banks can be a driving force towards a more sustainable economy at European and global level. Indeed banks can have a leverage effect and enable structural changes by financing innovative and sustainable projects. In this spirit and taking into account the growing climate challenges and the rapid developments and European and International level on sustainable finance the EACB has decided to move forward rapidly towards new initiatives showing its engagement in energy transition and green financing".
About UNEP-FI
United Nations Environment Programme – Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a partnership between United Nations Environment Programme and the global financial sector created in the context of the 1992 Earth Summit with a mission to promote sustainable finance. Over 200 financial institutions, including banks, insurers and investors, work with UNEP to understand today’s environmental challenges, why they matter to finance, and how to actively participate in addressing them.
UNEP FI’s work also includes a strong focus on policy – by fomenting country-level dialogues between finance practitioners, supervisors, regulators and policy-makers, and, at the international level, by promoting financial sector involvement in processes such as the global climate negotiations.
Finally, UNEP FI hosts the Global Roundtable every other year since 1994.
