● Its main goal is the contribution in financial training of people with intelectual disabilities.
● The project have joined with nine cooperative banks, which have joined the initiative, providing more than 50 branches for training.
The National Union of Cooperatives Credit (UNACC) has joined the project “Finanzas Inclusivas” organized by the Fundacion ONCE, in order to encourage financial education of people with intellectual disabilities. The goal is to promote education within this area, to give basic concepts, to increase the ability to make a responsible use of money and also provide financial skills for the labour market among people with intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties.
Due to its relevance, nine cooperative banks, members of Unacc, have joined this Project; Caja Rural Central, Caja Rural de Extremadura, Caja Rural de Salamanca, Caja de Ingenieros, Laboral Kutxa, Caja Rural Galega, Caja Rural de Castilla la Mancha, Caixa Popular and Caja Rural de Aragón, making available more than 50 branches for Fundación ONCE, in which they have the training. Besides, some of these cooperative banks plan to organize lectures for the Foundation students.
Although several of the initiatives will be implemented on October 3 on the occasion of the Day of Financial Education, the goal of the cooperative banks is this to be a long time action, in which they provide autonomy training to get better quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities.
Ms Cristina Freijanes, general secretary of the UNACC., points out that: “we’d like to support these activities, in the cooperative sector, to prevent social exclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, to make possible their work with credit institutions, saving and investment products and learn them how to handle money. We think one of the tools to get this independence is the continuous training”.
Due to this initiative’s impact on sociaty, Banco de España and Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV) decided this year to award first prize “Finanzas para Todos” to the “Finanzas Inclusivas” project, because of its outstanding in high degree of social engagement and dedication to financial education, using high quality topics.
