5th Convention Roundtable1 : Banking Legislation proposals & the project of the European Banking Union: what implications? from EACB on Vimeo.
This panel discussed European and International regulatory issues with particular focus on the new plans to create a European banking union with a single European banking supervisor, a common EU deposit-guarantee scheme and a single bank-resolution fund. High-level representatives of the EU institutions, other financial services regulators and co-operative banks exchanged views on current global challenges that are raising a number of questions about the impact of all these developments on co-operative banks as key players in financing the local economy.
5th Convention. Roundtable 2 Co-operative Banks : committed players for sustainable and equitable growth from EACB on Vimeo.
This panel highlighted the role of co-operative banks as socially responsible organisations deeply involved in their local communities. The discussion focused on the sector’s role in funding social projects, in socially responsible investment and green banking, and in supporting local economies. Representatives of co-operative banks presented best practices and exchange views with stakeholders from various backgrounds bringing perspectives from the real economy (SMEs, regions, NGOs) and from the academia.
5th Convention Roundtable 3 : the way froward : what future for co-operative banks and co-operatives in the context of the IYC from EACB on Vimeo.
This final session focused on how co-operative banks contribute to “build a better world” by helping to meet economic, environmental and social needs, in line with the goals of the UN’s International Year of Co-operatives and the Europe 2020 strategy for more balanced and sustainable growth. High-level representatives from the UN, the European institutions, co-operatives, co-operative banks and researchers heard the results of a survey on co-operative banks and discuss how the sector’s business model contributes to financial stability and sustainability. This panel sought to identify some key priorities to address the challenges facing co-operative banks and co-operatives as the International Year draws to a close, to enable the sector to maximise its contribution to addressing the wider challenges facing Europe now and in the future.
