On the 31st of October, the EACB organised in New-York a high-level breakfast meeting for the launch of the IYC 2012. This event was the occasion to highlight the specific values and governance that make the co-operative banks a unique and an alternative business model combining societal, economic and environmental objectives in line with the Millennium Development Goals for a more sustainable growth.
Participants included top representatives of co-operative banks, policy makers, UN ambassadors and UN officials.The EACB had the pleasure to coordinate the contributions of several key note speakers on “Co-operative banks: key players for financing the real economy”. Mr. Piet Moerland, Chairman of the EACB and of the Rabobank Executive Committee, launched this reception and was followed by Ms. Monique Leroux, President and CEO of the Desjardins Group. Finally, the EACB had the honor to receive a special guest speaker, Mr. Sha Zukang, the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs for the United Nations.
