PROGRAMME

PRACTICAL DETAILS

OBJECTIVES:

The profound changes in the economic and legislative banking environment are triggering a number of challenges. Co-operative banks, focused on members and costumers value, continue to play a key role in financing local economies, however they risk being deeply reshaped by the regulatory reforms and the new environment.

This trend was at the core of the Paris Declaration signed by top co-operative banks leaders: “The local banks face great difficulties in coping with the amount and complexity of the new regulatory framework with ever increasing compliance costs and increasingly prescriptive provisions. This may ultimately force them to organisational changes- or even to abandon their decentralised network system to gain economies of scale or to ease the reporting requirements (…) Is this really what the European economy needs?” (C. Talgorn, Chair of EACB, June 2013)
