BCC MICROFINANZA CAMPESINA
Active since 2002, " Microfinanza Campesina " is an integrated community development project in rural areas of Ecuador. Nowadays, with over $ 40 million of loans with a symbolic rate, “Microfinanza Campesina " is the most important development program with private funds in the South-American State.
Moreover BCC provided more than $ 2 million of grants (to capitalize 800 small banks in the Andes) and related activities, thanks to BCC synergy system (training, local development projects, technical equipment, refurbishment offices and machinery, etc.).
Qualifying elements of the project are the reciprocal relationships among small village banks and mutual banks; the breadth support is not only economic but also social, cultural and of values, thanks to the recognition of cooperative values.
Thanks to " Microfinanza Campesina " more than 150.000 families of farmers (campesinos) have been lifted out from poverty and have achieved food self-sufficiency; migration flows were reversed to Europe, it was decided to legalize the purchase of 5.400 acres of land managed by the community, over 22.000 brick houses were built, $ 110 million of microcredit were disbursed; the network of local cooperative banks and Central Institute of category (Bancodesarrollo SA) has been financially strengthened.
