Wednesday, 20th November 2019 – The EACB Think tank on Co-operatibe Banking has met today in Paris, kindly hosted by the Chaire MGCF - Management et Gouvernance des Coopératives Financières of the IAE Paris Sorbonne Business School.
The meeting was also the occasion to reward the winners of the 7th EACB Award for young researchers on Co-operative Banks. The purpose of this award is to stimulate research on co-operative banks and the fundamental role they play in the real economy. The winners: Dr. Pierluigi Murro and Dr. Valentina Peruzzi from the LUISS-Guido Carli University, for her article: Cooperative banks and income inequality: Evidence from Italian provinces, received their price during a ceremony with some members of the jury.
“Pierluigi Murro and Valentia Peruzzi submitted a paper, that addressed the highly relevant and currently intensively discussed topic of inequality. By applying data from Italy they showed that cooperative banks can significantly contribute to a reduction of inequality by offering their financial services within their regions. These results could also encourage regulators to reconsider the role of cooperative banks in contributing to the well-being of people” said Prof. Eric Meyer, member of the jury.
