The meeting was also the occasion to reward the winners of the 6th EACB Award for young researchers on Co-operative Banks. The purpose of this award is to stimulate research on co-operative banks and the fundamental role they play in the real economy. The two winners: Dr. Susanne Günther from the University of Münster, for her article: Peer Monitoring on internal capital markets? Empirical evidence from German cooperative banks, and Dr. Andreas Schenkel also from the University of Münster, for his article: Proportionality of Banking Regulation: Evidence from Germany; received their prices during a morning ceremony with some members of the jury.
“Susanne Guenther and Andreas Schenkel presented two papers that combined a rigorous scientific approach with practical impact", said Prof. Eric Meyer representing the jury. "Andreas Schenkel’s work showed how small banks are negatively affected by non-proportional compliance regulation and Susanne Guenther’s valuable paper demonstrated how the cooperative banking group’s internal monitoring system contribute to financial stability.”
