Brussels, July 9 – The European Association of Cooperative Banks (EACB) is honoured to announce that Marieke Van Berkel, Senior Director and Head of Department Retail Banking, Financial Markets, Payments and Digitalisation, has been appointed as the EACB representative in the Banking Stakeholder Group (BSG), a key advisory body for the European Banking Authority (EBA). Her term will span four years, during which she will play a crucial role in shaping the future of banking regulation in Europe.
In collaboration with other appointed members, including consumer representatives, banking service users and SMEs, Marieke will provide expert advice to the EBA on regulatory and implementing technical standards, as well as EBA guidelines and recommendations.
As Senior Director and Head of Department at the EACB, Marieke brings extensive experience in financial services regulation to the BSG. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of retail banking aspects, including anti-money laundering (AML), consumer and mortgage lending, access to payment accounts, data protection, open finance, the use of data and technology, investment services, digitalisation, and the digital euro. Additionally, she serves as a Board member of the European Payments Council.
Marieke's appointment underscores the EACB’s commitment to contributing to the development of a robust, diverse, competitive and resilient European banking sector. Her experience and knowledgeability will certainly benefit the BSG and the broader financial community.
