The EACB presents a new study, recently published by the Economic Research Department of Rabobank Nederland : “Will better Regulation and Better Supervision Contribute to a More Stable Banking Sector?”.
The study is published in the "Jaarboek Overheidsfinanciën 2014", Dutch Wim Drees Foundation for Public Finances. It analyses the latest developments in the European and international regulatory and supervisory frameworks, with a specific focus on systemic risks and ways to minimize taxpayer risks.
The study urges regulators and policymakers to strike a healthy balance between pre-emptive and curative approaches in designing regulation and to consider a cross-sectorial approach that would take into greater account financial institutions that have multiple business lines and are active in different jurisdictions.
