The study reports a first set of findings of a broad survey carried out by the Task Force on Co-operative Affairs of the EACB on membership and governance in European co-operative banks. The study, based on a broader EACB inquiry among its bank members, demonstrates that also today membership is a living and essential element of the co-operative banking model. With its specific features, the co-operative model delivers important impulses for the discussions on a sustainable and inclusive economy.
Prof. Dr. Hans Groeneveld, co-author of the report and chair of the Task Force:
“I hope that this report contributes to a better understanding among policy makers and academics about the paramount importance of preserving and respecting members' statutory rights and responsibilities in the governance of co-operative banks for a healthy and diverse European banking system.”
