On 28th of June Mr. Heegemann, Head of the EACB Legal Department, took part in an event entitled “crisis, banking sector reform and the role of co-operative banks in the real economy”. The event, organised by Nikos Chrysogelos, MEP (The Greens/European Free Alliance), aimed at highlighting the resilience of co-operative banks and their key contributions to local development in this challenging times of crisis.
In his presentation, Mr. Heegemann gave an introduction on the diversified European co-operative banking sector and on the role of co-operative banks in the crisis. Moreover he underlined the specificities of co-operative banks and why they better fared the crisis than other banks.
Furthermore Mr. Heegemann participated in a Round Table Discussion with other representatives of alternative banking models from Europe.
